well we have spent the last couple of days in Franz Josef which is a town based around an ice glacier. there are actually 2 ice glaciers in the area... somehow i got talked into going hiking on one of those glaciers (Fox glacier) but only after we watched an Imax on all the ice glaciers in New Zealand. let me tell you, NOT something you want to watch the day before you step foot on one of those things! the film also made Barb and I less than thrilled about sending Chris up on a mountain covered in ice glaciers just a few days after... on the other hand the film make Chris MORE stoked to get on the glacier! so while he will be hiking and climbing away, Barb and I will be spending our time laying out by the lake, shopping around town, going on a brewery tour, and enjoying the cute little town we are in, called Wanaka. our first night in Wanaka was less than enjoyable when the hostel we were staying at was next to a bunch of partying college age boys who felt the need to play extremely loud music and scream and dance until the wee hours of the morning. bless their hearts, they just wanted us to feel like we were at the party as well! but we have moved into a nice place for the rest of the week and we are looking forward to having a "home" for more than 1-2 nights.

Barb said...ha! ... actually the only fake photo was the whale tail.... and wouldn't you know caleb spotted that one right away as its a stock photo that comes as a sample on new computers. darn! the rest are real.... and some of the best yet to come. We are trying to find a way to put up the video we have of chris and rachel being thrown off the bridge! (bungy style)

Barb said...hey - we are hard core too! We hiked 1.5 hours up 500+ steps and trails... and yes we had crampons on!!

Also Chris's climb got moved once again. this time due to weather, not heath. there is suppose to be a big storm coming in tomorrow which would have got him stuck in a tent for 3 days. so they decided to leave either tues or wed. we'll keep you all posted.
